So Is This Shit Scary, Or What?

That all depends on YOU, asshole. We consider ourselves here at NOTC to be an incredibly jaded group of movie buffs. We've punished our minds year after year with a never-ending parade of low-budget horror schlock. We've become pretty desensitized to what most people consider repulsive, abhorrent, or disturbing in cinema. However, the film had a pretty profound impact on the squadron of NOTC cadets who saw the film on opening night. Of the 6 NOTC party members in attendance, 4 out of the 6 said it really was scary as hell in multiple scenes and that they were genuinely spooked throughout much of the film. Two of us walked out of the theater without having felt that same spine-tingling chill that the original trailer produced one time during the entire film.

"When I downloaded the original BLAIR WITCH trailer off the web page a few months ago... the damn thing made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Seriously, it sent a chill through my blood. I had never seen a trailer for a movie that gave me such a powerful reaction, let alone one on the fucking computer. I was hunting for that same chill throughout the movie itself, and sadly- I never found it. I think I had just seen so much of the footage and knew so much of the background mythology beforehand that I was spoiled. I walked out of the theater a bit disappointed that I never got genuinely frightened, but after rapping about the flick for a few hours afterward with everybody (and hearing the genuine emotion in their voices) it reclaimed a bit of its power. Scared or not- BLAIR WITCH is definitely thought provoking... and well worth the ticket price. Do yourself a favor and see it."

"I gotta say that this movie was really scary. No, I don't mean that kind of scary where they show you the devil woman pop out of a wall and I go into TURBO REVERSE GEAR, I'm talkin about that scary that you felt when you watched Robert Stack talking about escaped axe murderers in your home town when your mom and dad aren't home when you were 8. Where's my nightlight....."

"This movie is scary on so many levels. The last forty five minutes to an hour is just electric or something and very very gripping... but the worst scare doesn't come untill after you leave the theater and start talking about it. The imagery and the circumstances are very, very scary. I don't want to say anything more because that would make the movie less pleasurable, I think."

"Well, let's say this: It's not as scary as your momma blowing smoke out of her ass, but it does have its moments. A few shots are truly disturbing and others are very creepy. However, for the most part, this movie lacks any "scary" feel to it. However, don't get this confused with a lack of tension or interest. This Movie Really does have a strange feel to it. So even if you're not scared, you'll be glued to your seat!!!"

"Blair Witch is like nothing I've ever seen before. The screams are genuine and the 'fuck you's are sincere. It's scary in a way you wouldn't really expect. Do yourself (and the faceless money grubbing producers over at Hexan films) a favor and see this movie as soon as it hits your town. It's truly innovative and will leave you with your pants wet."
